Backcountry Bike & Ski pairs the best brands in the industry with a fantastic team to provide a high-level sales and service experience for our customers. Our shop is located right in the heart of downtown Palmer, Alaska within a short walk to fantastic eateries & breweries, not to mention within a few minutes’ drive of some of Southcentral Alaska’s favorite summer and winter trail systems. CURRENT OPENINGS
BICYCLE MECHANICS / SKI TECHNICIANS
Position: Full-Time or Part-Time
Salary: DOE
We are looking for outgoing, sociable persons with good energy and a positive attitude, a teammate with stellar customer service skills, a willingness to learn, and a real motivation to be a part of a community-oriented shop. Because you’ll constantly be speaking with customers to evaluate issues and recommend repairs, we value fantastic hospitality skills. If you’ve already worked as a mechanic, ski tech, or retail sales clerk, that’s great and we will put both your hospitality and technical skills to work! Salary DOE, and we’ll gladly consider both full-time and part-time applicants.

Preferred Experience/Requirements:
Minimum one year mechanic experience highly encouraged, more training will be provided.
Impressive attention to detail and a love for tinkering ‘til you figure it out.
Eagerness to know the ins and outs of servicing bicycles and skis.
A desire to continually learn proper service methods and new technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assemble new bicycles.
Confirm that proper safety practices are being followed.
Ensure that there is good communication between sales and service departments.
Help maintain a positive work environment.
Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and organization of the repair shop.
RETAIL SALES PROS
Position: Full-Time or Part-Time
Salary: DOE
We are looking for outgoing, sociable persons with good energy and a positive attitude, a teammate with stellar customer service skills, a willingness to learn, and a real motivation to be a part of a community-oriented shop. Though prior outdoor retail experience is not necessary, experience working in a fast-paced environment with a customer service component will prove very useful in this position. Knowledge of bikes, skis, and snowboards is greatly valued. Must be motivated and able to help in a wide variety of day-to-day tasks on the floor. Salary is DOE, and we’ll gladly consider both full-time and part-time applicants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Share product knowledge and enthusiasm for bikes and Nordic skis with customers.
Maintain familiarity with all brands of bikes, skis, parts, models and accessories we stock.
Direct customers through the entire new bike/ski sales process.
Build and maintain relationships with customers.
Answer phones and schedule rental requests.
Provide local bike & ski trail condition reports and advise customers on the best trails for their goal and ability level.
Complete a multitude of daily housekeeping and office tasks.
